Domo Arrigato?

Mr. Roboto. Domo Domo.

http://www.technologyreview.com/business/37949/?mod=chfeatured

All kidding aside, this is too freaky to pass up my thoughts. NASA has a fully functional robot that works alongside humans during shuttle launches. Sounds a bit too much like Space Odyssey but whatever, it was bound to happen. These robots however are built with soft like limbs and torsos, bringing us closer to the human/android era foretold so many times in science fiction novels.

Honestly at this point, this doesn't sound like too much of a big deal but that was a year ago. Now there are putting the robots to more land-based production. All those huge factories to make large auto parts with big bulky iconic arms are going to be replaced with these smaller robot models, making it safer for robots to interact with humans. That sounds great and all until the robots replace all of the manufacturing needs where humans USED the robots to create these large parts in factories. In my mind, this is like outsourcing but no one is benefiting except the people making the robots. Yes, I believe in improvements in technology but this is getting a bit freaky. I'm sure in another 5 years this will be the norm and something else outrageous will change the waters.

$15,000 Woman

Gentlemen, we can rebuild her.

Oh be certain this is going to be filled with a lot of eye-catching jokes. The moment I saw this, I couldn't look away. A woman in San Francisco wants a bionic eye. Through her prosthetic eye, a waterproof webcam will be placed between the cushioned layers to stream live video and photographs through built in apps and giving her a new ability to see more than what she could see with a normal eyes. For a woman with only one eye, she sure does have a pair.

The part that throws me off the most is that she only needs $15,000 to have a bionic eye. A bionic eye for $15,000??? I'm almost tempted to do it now. I wear glasses, I'm sure having $30,000 on hand will give me better vision than I ever had on a good day. By August 3rd, the procedure will begin to first, do the research and build of all of this eye and then if successful, should start another revolution in technology vs humans vs androids debate that will become true within 5 years. Yay Surrogates!

Google + Social = $20 Billion

Has anyone heard much about Google+? All I've heard is that it's only one of the greatest rivals to facebook ever. Bringing in a new means of social networking, Google+ is already showing a lot of promise only being in existence for a few weeks. By focusing on the next step to social connections, Google+ is apparently adding around $20 BILLION more to their market cap.

I honestly believe that Google is going to rule the world (publicly) in the very near future. Why wouldn't it also take control of social media? A lot of other sites exist to try and "compete" with facebook, but nothing can compare to the gigantor that is Google. The evolution of networking has gone through a lot of websites; xanga, livejournal, myspace, and facebook. Now Google would like a try and even in its beta stage, it is kicking ass.
The benjamins don't lie.

Calendars, who needs 'em?

Recently at my job, I've been asked to do a lot of research for php calendars to use for a client. I've been looking back and forth like crazy to get this done. But then it got me thinking: who really uses calendars? I mean, for a company using a website, it's nice to see their list of events and schedules. However, on every computer there's a type of calendar application that can display different events that you want to remember/be notified.

Following this link is an interesting article bringing to light the pros and cons of calendar applications that range from their capabilities to which platforms they're supported on. At my job I always use iCal, but I'm a PC kind of gal. I don't know, I really don't care for it either. I never really thought of myself being so busy that I need to commit time to write down my events on an app or any desktop. The article's still valid in its argument; I just don't feel it affects me that much in terms of needing a calendar application.
